Matthew 5

The Beatitudes

 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

(Galatians 5:22,23)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness,self-control. Against such there is no law.

 

 

 

 LOVE( VERSES FROM ESV)

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.(1 Corinthians 13:4,5)

 

Let all that you do be done in love.(1 Corinthians 16:14)

 

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.(Psalm 143:8)

 

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good success
in the sight of God and man(Proverbs 3:3-4)

 

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

(Colossians 3:14)

 

With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.

(Ephesians 4:2)

 

We love because he first loved us.(1 John 4:19)

 

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.(1 John 4:8)

 

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.(Romans 12:9)

 

And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

(1 Corinthians 13:2)

 

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

(2 Thessalonians 3:5)

 

No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.(1 John 4:12)

 

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Matthew 22:37-40 (NKJV)

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

 

VERSES ON JOY

 

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

 

The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.(Zephaniah 3:17)

 

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.(Romans 12:12)
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.(Philippians 4:4)

 

When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy.(Psalm 94:19)-NIV

 

This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.(Psalms 118:24)

 

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.(2 Corinthians 9:7)
Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.(John 16:24)

 

Your testimonies are my heritage forever,
for they are the joy of my hear(Psalms 119:111)

In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.(Psalm 119:14)

 

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.(Romans 5:3-4)

Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Numbers 14:18

But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth.

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

KINDNESS

And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

Let the righteous strike me;
It shall be a kindness.
And let him rebuke me;
It shall be as excellent oil;

FAITHFULNESS

Hosea 2:20

Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

GENTLENESS

Ephesians 4:2

with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,

Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

James 3:17

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.

2 Timothy 2:24-26

The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

Matthew 11:29

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

 

SELF CONTROL

Titus 1:8

but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled,

Titus 2:2

Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.

1 Corinthians 9:26,27

Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
