My friends, Christians often claim to be the descendants of Abraham. But if we are really the seed of Abraham, then we must also have or reflect at least some part of the blessing that was on Prophet Abraham’s life. If we study the word of God carefully then we notice that there were over 40 blessings given to Abraham during his life time in God. Let us see some of them:-

  1. Genesis 12:1-

Now the Lord had said to Abram:

    “Get out of your country,
    From your family
    And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.”

Abraham was told to do three things and in turn God promised him many other valuable blessings. The Lord promised Abraham that HE will take Abraham to a new land directed by God Himself. Land can have many revelations here, it can be literal and yes it is, but it also means area or place of destination i.e. in the mind of God. (place of assignment/ calling). So the first blessing was a promised land.

    2) Genesis 12:2- “I will make you a great nation…;”

Yes this was the second blessing that God gave to Abraham. God will make Abraham a great nation i.e. we see when Jacob was named Israel and indeed it became a nation more blessed than anyone. Later on we the believers became the descendants of Abraham by faith. So we were added to God’s family through Abraham in CHRIST JESUS our Lord.

    3) Genesis 12:2 – “I will bless you…”

God told Abraham that HE will bless him. Ephesians 1:3 says that we are Spiritually blessed in every way. Blessing is always imparted beyond the natural i.e. in the spiritual aspect first and then manifested as a result in the natural. Blessing was specially spoken over Abraham’s life by God Almighty Himself.

    4) Genesis 12:2- “And make your name great…;”

Abram (meaning high father) became Abraham ( father of a multitude/nations). He left his father’s house (that included his father’s name or dependency on man), but God honored Abraham’s obedience and sacrifice and blessed his name as well. His name was later changed and according to the name given by God to him, he was and even is blessed.

    5) Genesis 12:2 – ” And you shall be a blessing.”

God blessed Abraham first the blessing overflowed to such an extent that God wanted Abraham to make a source of blessing to others. He became blessing to his family, his children, his nation and the coming generations. Even Lot was blessed and protected because of Abraham. God honored Abraham and blessed all those in contact with him. Even from the life of Sarah and Hagar both we notice that impact of blessing. Later on Isaac was blessed as a legal heir. Today we see Israel blessed upto this day just because of blessing on Abraham and him being a source of blessing.

    6) Genesis 12:3 – ” I will bless those who bless you…”

This is another big blessing, that God gave to Abraham, that all those people will be blessed who bless Abraham. Lord JESUS CHRIST Himself said that those who are not against us are for us. Lord carefully watches every word that people speak about the anointed ones. Bible says do not touch My anointed one. Abraham was not only anointed but was a chosen Prophet of God.

    7) Genesis 12:3- “…And I will curse him who curses you…;”

This is another great word given by God. When Saul was persecuting the church, in Acts 9 when Saul also known as Paul had an encounter with the Lord, Lord asked Saul that why was he persecuting the Lord? This was amazing since Saul thought that he was zealous for the Lord but God considered HIS people as HIS own and therefore addressed directly to Saul about HIM being persecuted. My friends Psalm 109 also mentions the consequences of cursing the man or a women of God. Some consider the above points 6 and 7 as a part of same blessing. Whatever the case may be Abraham was blessed in a unique way like never before.

    8) Genesis 12:3- : ” …And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

In you means, he was the root cause, the reason, the source of blessing for all the families on the earth to be blessed. My friends Abraham was blessed not only in a localized area but had dominion on earth. The blessing that was given to Adam and Noah was reaffirmed to Abraham. The whole earth would follow the blessing given to Abraham.

to be continued in part 2 God willing…
